Peer Review Process

Peer review is an essential step in academic publishing to ensure the quality, validity, and originality of manuscripts before publication. At Nusa Journal of Community Service, this process involves a critical evaluation of the manuscript by experts (peers) in the same field as the author.

Stages of the Peer Review Process

  1. Manuscript Submission
The author submits the manuscript through the journal’s online submission system.

  2. Initial Editorial Screening
The Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor reviews the manuscript to ensure that it fits the journal’s focus and scope and meets the basic formatting and ethical standards. Manuscripts that fail at this stage will be subject to desk rejection.

  3. Reviewer Assignment
If the manuscript passes the initial screening, it is assigned to two to three reviewers who are experts in the relevant field.

  4. Review Process
Reviewers carefully examine the manuscript and provide constructive feedback, assessing aspects such as:

    • The significance and originality of the work.

    • The appropriateness of methods and approach in community service.

    • The clarity and coherence of presentation.

    • The relevance, outcomes, and impact of the findings.

  5. Editor’s Decision
Based on reviewers’ recommendations, the editor makes one of the following decisions:

    • Accepted: The manuscript is accepted with no or only minor revisions.

    • Minor Revision: The manuscript can be accepted after the author makes minor adjustments.

    • Major Revision: The manuscript requires substantial improvements before reconsideration.

    • Rejected: The manuscript is declined due to fundamental issues, such as weak methodology or lack of relevance.

  6. Revision and Resubmission
Authors revise the manuscript according to the reviewers’ comments and resubmit it for further evaluation.

  7. Final Decision
The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision after assessing the revised manuscript.

Purpose and Benefits of Peer Review

  • Quality Improvement: Helps authors strengthen their manuscripts by addressing weaknesses.

  • Scientific Validation: Ensures that findings are reliable, supported by strong methodology and evidence.

  • Plagiarism Prevention: Independent review helps detect plagiarism or unethical practices.

  • Knowledge Filtering: Ensures only high-quality, impactful works are published.

Peer Review Model

Nusa Journal of Community Service applies a Double-Blind Peer Review system, where both authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other throughout the review process.
